Tamilplay is a Tamil-language online streaming service that offers users a selection of Tamil movies and television shows.
The company was founded in 2012 by co-founders Senthil Kumar and Vigneshwaran K. They have offices in Chennai and Bangalore, India. In 2013, they raised $1 million from angel investors to fund the development of their platform. In 2014, they received $5 million from the Indian government's Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) to help expand their services nationwide.
In 2016, Tamilplay crossed more than 3 million downloads on Android devices alone and became the most downloaded app in India for Android devices that year. They also partnered with Google Play Movies & TV to offer offline playback feature on YouTube Red subscriptions in 2017.
